Business, Not Bureaucracy: Taxfix Launches New Offering for the Self-Employed
Berlin, 18 March 2026 - From registering as self-employed, bookkeeping to VAT pre-return: Taxfix now offers solutions for the self-employed, small business owners and traders. Europe's leading AI platform for digital tax management is further expanding its product portfolio.
Frustration among the self-employed is widespread - that's the finding of a representative Taxfix survey of 1,002 entrepreneurs. Nearly three quarters view taxes as a burdensome obligation. Only 16 percent of respondents see taxes as an opportunity for optimisation and growth. It's no surprise, then, that nearly one in three self-employed individuals leave these matters entirely to experts. More than half want intuitive automation from their tax tools.
True to its mission to empower people to take control of their finances and fix finance for all, Taxfix's new solution for VAT-registered self-employed individuals simplifies complex tax processes – automated and in just a few steps. The AI platform addresses two core needs: ongoing bookkeeping for income and expenses, and VAT pre-return (UStVA). Therefore, uploaded receipts are categorised, assigned to the correct tax fields and submitted directly to the tax office via the ELSTER interface.
"Hard-working self-employed individuals, traders and freelancers are the backbone of our economy. Yet when it comes to taxes, they're often treated as an edge case," says Martin Ott, CEO of Taxfix. "Complex rules, a lack of affordable advice and limited time mean that many put off their obligations until the last minute. If you're building a business, your energy should go into your services and your customers – not into complicated forms. Our new solutions for the self-employed reduce the burden and give them back valuable time for their business or their family."
Taxfix knows the self-employed and small business market well: the platform is already successfully established with similar solutions in the UK and Spain.
How the new service for users subject to VAT works:
- Free extra service: Register your self-employment digitally: Taxfix offers tax registration for new businesses as a simple online process. Fill in the form online, review it and submit it securely to the tax office via the ELSTER interface ( https://taxfix.de/selbstaendigkeit-anmelden ).
- Set up your profile: On first use, a few basic details about the business are captured – such as the tax number and reporting frequency (monthly or quarterly).
- Upload invoices and receipts: After uploading documents, users immediately have a clear overview of their finances, including VAT owed or to be refunded.
- Submit your VAT pre-return (UStVA): The feature automatically generates the VAT pre-return and submits it securely to the tax office via the ELSTER interface. If a VAT payment is due, clear information on next steps and payment follows.
Pricing and availability of the new solution
Taxfix for the self-employed and entrepreneurs with VAT obligations is available now across Germany, in German and English - at taxfix.de and very soon in the Taxfix app (iOS/Android). Users can try the new offering free of charge for the first month. After that, the full service costs €19.99 net per month.
Extra service for small business owners
Taxfix also caters to those who are not yet subject to VAT: anyone operating under the small business regulation (Kleinunternehmerregelung) can file their tax return directly via the Taxfix app or at taxfix.de - or have it optimised by certified tax advisors. For self-filers, the tax return is free up to the calculation stage; submission starts at €49.99. The expert service costs 20 per cent of the refund, with a minimum of €99.99.
About the survey
The survey, commissioned by Taxfix, was conducted by market research firm Conjointly using a representative sample of 1,002 entrepreneurs - self-employed individuals, small business owners and freelancers - in Germany aged 18 or older, surveyed online in March 2026.
